Tackling Your Nerves is the First Step to Becoming a Badass Speaker

If you're like most people, you've probably struggled with or are currently struggling with feeling like a confident communicator:

  • preparing for leading a presentation with your team keeps you up at night
  • replaying your recent communication mishaps over and over in your mind
  • feeling like you're not sharing your message effectively
  • so nervous that you can't remember the words you prepared, or start word vomiting a bunch of new ones
  • the idea of presenting in front of a crowd has your running for the hills

Guess what! Most of those people who you admire as being strong communicators did not start that way. And, it's possible to be one of those people.

But, the only way to improve your communication skills is to learn good methods, and then get out there and practice.

If the thing stopping you from doing the above, is those nagging nerves that won't quit, this training is a good place to start.

Being nervous about giving presentations is entirely normal – and even a good thing, believe it or not.

Don’t let it hold you back from where you want to go. Instead of letting your anxiety get you down, reframe your energy as excitement and care for your audience.

Anyone can gain public speaking confidence through practice, mindset shifts, and organizational tools.

This training will help individuals

  • gain clarity in what they want to say
  • confidence when speaking with others,
  • and authenticity in their communication style.

By connecting with themselves, their purpose, and their audience, individuals can make great impacts.

Join us and start gaining the confidence to use your voice!

Meet Allison:

Hi, I'm Allison,

a Clinical Assistant Professor of Communication and UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School.

I've spent the last almost 20 years of my life thinking about, studying, and developing my communication skills. Everything I know, I learned with someone else, and my favorite teachers are my students.

I love helping people get a handle on their nerves and speaking anxiety because I've seen how important communciation skills are in building one's confidence, navigating relationships, and advancing your career.

When teaching, speaking, and working with others, I jump at the chance to think about inclusive communication, organizational equity, systems of exclusion, and White anti-racism, and I try my best to create a safe space for all individuals to learn.

I hope that you'll join me if you're looking for an opportunity to learn about and improve your own communications skills.

See you soon!

We all need to use our voices, a lack of confidence in your speaking skills doesn't have to get in your way.
